Zeeshan Maqsood Stars As Oman Dominate In T20 World Cup Opener


4 wickets for Oman captain Zeeshan Maqsood saw Oman get off to the perfect start in the T20 World Cup opening game while Scotland would pull off an upset in Day 1’s other game.

Oman vs Papua New Guinea

Oman won the toss and elected to field first.

Tony Ura would be bowled by Bilal Khan off the fifth ball of the innings without scoring before fellow opener Lega Siaka would follow in the next over for the same score. PNG captain Assad Vala and Charles Amini would put on 81 in 10 overs before the latter was run out by Mohammad Nadeem for 37 off 26 balls with the captain following soon after, caught by Jatinder Singh off the bowling of Kaleemullah, for 56.

Norman Vanua would be bowled by Zeeshan Maqsood (pictured below batting) for 1 before Sese Bau would be caught by Singh off the same bowler for 13. Kiplin Doriga would be caught by Sandeep Goud off the bowling of Maqsood without scoring before Simon Atai would be caught by Ayaan Khan off the bowling of B. Khan for 3. Damien Ravu would be the final wicket to fall, caught by Nadeem off the bowling of Maqsood for 1 with Kabua Morea and Nosaina Pokana finishing 6 and 5 not out respectively.

Oman would knock the 130 run target off easily in the end with Aqib Ilyas (50 off 43 balls) and Singh (pictured below, 73 off 42 balls) with 38 balls to spare.

Bangladesh vs Scotland

Bangladesh would win the toss and elect to field first.

Captain Kyle Coetzer would be the first man out for the Scots, bowled by Mohammad Saifuddin without scoring before Matthew Cross would be LBW to Mahedi Hasan for 11. Opener George Munsey would be bowled by the same bowler for 29 before Richie Berrington would be caught by Afif Hossain off the bowling of Shakib Al Hasan for 2.

Michael Leask would be caught by Liton Das off the same bowler for a second-ball duck before Calum MacLeod would be bowled by Hasan – the Scots sitting at 53/6 at this point having been 45/1 before Cross’ wicket. Mark Watt would be caught by Soumya Sarkar off the bowling of Taskin Ahmed for 22 before Chris Greaves (pictured below) would be caught by Al Hasan off the bowling of Mustafizur Rahman for 45 off 28 balls. Josh Davey would be bowled the following ball for 8 off by the same bowler with Safyaan Sharif (8 off 2 balls) and Brad Wheal (1) the not out batsmen.

Sarkar would be caught by Munsey off the bowling of Davey for 5 before Das would be caught by the same fielder off the bowling of Wheal (pictured below) for the same score. Al Sasan would be caught by MacLeod off the bowling of Greaves for 20 before Mushfiqur Rahim would be bowled by the same bowler for 38.

Hossain would be caught by Davey off the bowling of Watt for 18 before Nurul Hasan would be caught by MacLeod off the bowling of Wheal for 2. Captain Mahmudullah would be the final man out, dismissed by the same combination, for 23 with M. Hasan (13) and Saifuddin (5) the not out batsmen.
