There has been no announcement yet on WWE NXT’s move to Tuesday nights but it’s definitely happening.
Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that the move is considered a done deal within the USA Network. Alvarez said that “internally, inside the network, it’s a done deal.”
We’re told that advertisers were told that if they wanted to buy advertising within the 2-hour NXT block, then they would have to buy ads for Tuesday night as of April 13, which is the Tuesday after WrestleMania.
As previously noted, this move is happening because of NHL programming moving to the USA Network later this year as NBCUniversal prepares to shut down NBC Sports Network.
NHL has priority since they bring in more revenue. Even if the ratings were equal to what NXT draws, NHL programming is able to bring in more lucrative sponsors.
NXT’s move to Tuesday is not a total surprise and was widely expected when news broke in January about NBCSN shutting down later this year.
The news of NXT’s move to Tuesday could greatly benefit AEW Dynamite’s ratings now that they no longer have to worry about wrestling competition.
