WWE could move ThunderDome setup to venue that hosted past Royal Rumble event | Wrestling News

It was previously reported that WWE has to move the ThunderDome setup from Tropicana Field in Tampa sometime in early April.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE ticketing department is still arranging flights to Tampa for the post-WrestleMania 37 Raw and the post-WrestleMania SmackDown. Thus, this is an indication that WWE plans to keep its tapings in the Tampa market.

The latest was posted by F4Wonline.com, which reports that WWE officials have been having talks with the Yuengling Center at the University of South Florida in Tampa. As of this writing, there’s been no confirmation that the two sides are discussing a potential residency for the ThunderDome setup, but the timing is interesting.

At the end of the day, no matter where WWE moves the setup, it will look the same on television. They built the setup for an arena, the first home at Amway Center, and there was no notable difference when they moved it to Tropicana Field, which is a baseball field.

The Yuengling Center, which was once known as the University of South Florida Sun Dome, hosted the 1995 Royal Rumble pay-per-view in addition to Saturday Night’s Main Event in December 1985 and 1988.
