The Beautiful People on getting porn names in TNA, working with Vince Russo, why they couldn’t be babyfaces | Wrestling News

Angelina Love and Velvet Sky launched a new podcast this past week on RussosBrand.com. The debut episode mainly centered on how The Beautiful People came together in 2007 for TNA Wrestling.

Here are some highlights:

Love on being part of the original Knockouts division:

“It was a huge honor because starting the Knockouts division at that time was really just a crapshoot. Jeff Jarrett admitted it. It was like, ‘We are going to try this thing and let it sink or swim.’ It did really good…  We decided to do a team or a group and the hot things at the time were The Mean Girls, and Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie doing the Simple Life kind of stuff. That was the basis of what our characters were based off of. When we went to Vince (Russo) with it, he loved it. It was cool. We were coming up with our own ideas. It was different. He had about 6 or 7 new girls he needed to come up with sh*t for, so I think he appreciated that we were like, ‘We have some ideas.’

Love talking about their TNA names:

“I was Angel Williams because that is what I was before and you were Talia Madison. We started TNA with our indie names.  Later on, I was talking to Jeremy Borash and he said ‘We changed your names.’…We hated our names…We realized we can’t fight this.  We’re new.  We’re not even going to try, so how do we try to make this our own?  We made it sexy.  We were like, ok, our names sound like pornstars.  We understand that we have a certain look as well which is what we were going for anyway so we need to make our group name sound like a porn production company.  We had come up with Velvet Love Entertainment and thought this was great.  We ran up to Vince the next day and said we have this great idea.  Mike Tenay actually did say that on TV once.  It’s on one of our matches somewhere. He did say Velvet Love Entertainment. We thought that was genius.  Vince was like, ‘No and he said ‘The Beautiful People.’  Vince was so convinced The Beautiful People was the way to go.”

Sky discussing their debut:

“But the great thing is, we took what they gave us and we ran with it.  When we first debuted, they debuted us as babyfaces.  The first time we went to the ring, I had my chaps on and my a*s hanging out and our boobies pushed up and hanging out.  They sent us out there as The Beautiful People, as babyfaces, and I remember as soon as the crowd saw us, they booed the s**t out of us.”

Love added:  “We are not natural babyfaces whatsoever.  It is very natural for us to be heels.

Love talking about working with Vince Russo:

Vince was the main writer. Vince was so easy to work with. We had such a great relationship with him because he was so open to our input and our ideas, not necessarily on our team name but it ended up working out, but he always gave us the ball and let us run with it.  It was opportunity after opportunity and we were knocking everything out of the park all the time.  He loved how it evolved and what it became.  We did get scripts and stuff for a little bit of time.  They would have it written out and I would be like, ‘I don’t think I would say that. Can I change this sentence?’ and Vince would always be like, ‘Yea.  You be you.  You know what you’re doing.  Make it your own.  Hit this point and this point and make sure you say when the PPV is and what time.’  He was always cool with us.  We were one take wonders and it was so easy.”
