Latest on Marty Scurll in attendance for recent NJPW Strong show | Wrestling News

On Wednesday, it was reported by Fightful Select that Marty Scurll was backstage at a recent set of New Japan Pro Wrestling Strong tapings. They weren’t told whether Scurll had any involvement in the content on the show, but what was noted was Scrull’s interest in coming back to the promotion.

Fanbyte’s Emily Pratt reported Scurrl was involved in an post-match angle with Rocky Romero at the tapings. Because of non-disclosure agreements, information has been hard to verify. The tapings that Scurll was at took place on January 22nd.

On Wednesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that the former ROH star worked at the tapings in California. As it stands right now, it’s unknown how many shows he will appear on as part of the tapings nor when they will air.

“Marty Scurll worked the New Japan tapings a couple of weeks ago in California.” He then talked about how NJPW using him in Japan won’t be an issue, but it will be for fans in the United States.

“I’m not at all surprised at Marty Scurll working for New Japan. That’s just how they do things and in Japan, it’s not going to be an issue. In the United States, it’s going to be an issue to a lot of fans. There are people who want him black-balled for life.”

His last match was back in February 2020 at Gateway to Honor in a six-man tag team match.
