Hiroshi Tanahashi Re-Signs With NJPW

Hiroshi Tanahashi has re-signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling. He of course, is the reigning IWGP United States Champion, and the epic talent was all smiles in a tweet he posted recently stating that he was staying with the promotion.

NJPW, AJPW and even Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW), spearheaded Japanese wrestling. The promotions are now legendary and the business wouldn’t be the same without their existence. It can also be argued that the careers of Mick Foley, Sabu and Terry Funk would not have gone the way they did without the aforementioned Japanese promotions.

Hiroshi Tanahashi himself, has been wrestling since 1999. He is currently 45, but legend that he is, is still quite the commodity in the industry. As was common in NJPW, talent wasn’t signed for contracts that extend over a year’s period, but that changed recently, and as Wrestling Inc reports, that change came after the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura and the Phenomenal AJ Styles left the company. The exact details of his contract were not at all disclosed.

“I will do my best,” Tanahashi tweeted.

His history with the promotion goes way back. He also attended the New Japan dojo back when he started out, which makes sense. He even got to co-hold the tag team titles in another promotion he worked in (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre Co., Ltd), with none other than the legendary Jushin Thunder Liger – royalty in the realm of Japanese pro wrestling.

His list of accolades are insane, but NJPW re-signing him speaks volumes in terms of what they have planned for him. Look forward to some pretty epic battles on the horizon, dear readers. I know us here at Ringside News are very excited. We wonder only if the threshold of the ‘Forbidden Door’ into AEW is on that horizon?
