Ethel Johnson’s Family Not Happy With WWE After Hall Of Fame Botch

WWE botched Ethel Johnson’s Legacy Award video package by airing footage of the wrong wrestler. This entire experience didn’t sit well with the family of Johnson.

Chris Bournea recently spoke with Johnson’s family about her WWE Hall of Fame induction. Her sister, Babs Wingo, confirmed that they didn’t get any contact from WWE before putting her in the HOF. They had to contact WWE.

She apparently told WWE that there were errors in the video package and she was told that they would be corrected, but they weren’t.

“They inducted her as the first African American female wrestler. She needs to be inducted as the first African American female champion. They did not contact anybody. I didn’t get any contact until after I reached out and saw what they put up. I contacted WWE. They contacted me back, I told them what the errors were in the video. They said they were going to correct it. They didn’t know when the corrections were going to be made. They recently reached out to me and said they made the corrections, but I can’t find the original advertisement or video. I don’t know what they corrected.”

Johnson’s niece, Kim Goodwin Martin, said that WWE didn’t contact the family about accepting the Legacy Award honor either. They would also like an apology.

“How come you didn’t invite us to accept the award on behalf of my aunt? You didn’t call us because you knew you were doing wrong. They had plenty of time to get the information. They decided to put out what they wanted to put out. What they put out was untrue. It should be on the site with a big apology.”

Ethel Johnson sadly passed away in 2018 prior to her Hall of Fame induction.

WWE has a lot of things going on behind the scenes, especially around WrestleMania. That doesn’t excuse them from keeping the wrong footage in Ethel Johnson’s video package, especially after being informed that they put the wrong woman in.
