AEW announced that Britt Baker is facing Thunder Rosa in the first-ever women’s match to main event an episode of AEW Dynamite. The match is another first for the promotion as Baker and Rosa will meet in the first-ever women’s Unsanctioned Lights Out, Anything Goes match.
Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa are the perfect opponents for this historic match. Baker and Rosa are both tremendous wrestlers with great chemistry in the ring. As we have seen in their previous matches, they are more than willing to put it all on the line. They both have good, fleshed-out characters and their feud is the only on-going storyline in the women’s division.
They are entwined in a heated and intense rivalry. For months the two have interfered in each other’s matches, viciously attacked one another and added fuel to the fire with a volley of barbs and personal insults.
All came to ahead at AEW Beach Break on February 3rd when the two finally met one-on-one in the ring. The match was a tempestuous affair with both competitors trading stiff strikes, heavy blows and big moves. But the ending of the fight made sure the feud was far from over. Baker’s assistant, Reba/Rebel, removed the turnbuckle pad, which Baker used to knock out Rosa and synch in the Lockjaw as the referee called the match.
The bad blood between Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker has continued to boil. Both fighters are taking shots at each other over Twitter and even in matches. After Baker defeated Madi Wrenkowski in the first round of the AEW women’s title tournament, Baker and Rebel drew Rosa’s makeup design on her face as a direct insult to “La Mera Mera”.
Baker also put together a tremendous video package of her striking and beating on Thunder Rosa, which she posted across social media.
Baker and Rosa would clash in the ring again, this time in a tag team action at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view. Their heated rivalry escalated when Rebel smacked Thunder Rosa with her crutch, and Baker scored the pin. The following Wednesday, the enemies met in tag team action once more. Rosa was victorious this time around, but Baker attacked after her match.
The time for attacking and tweeting is over. The time fighting and violence is here as the two foes will go at it in AEW Dynamite’s first women’s main event match.
Thunder Rosa is the Day-of-the-Dead inspired badass who has elevated AEW’s women’s division whenever she has appeared for the company. Her debut on AEW brought credibility, legitimacy, and fire to the women’s roster. Therefore, she should be apart of the first AEW women’s match to main event their flagship show.
Britt Baker is easily AEW’s most prominent name in AEW’s women’s division. Baker as the vindictive and uber-confident dentist with a superiority complex is a joy to watch. The turn made her the best performer on the roster. She excelled in her new role and backed it up with an impressive action in the ring. Baker had significantly improved both in and out of the ring over the last year and deserves to be in the first-ever women’s main event match.
Baker and Rosa will undoubtedly put on a great match and one that fits perfectly in the main event slot. Their characters, in-ring work, storyline and feud make them the perfect opponents in the perfect match that is more than worthy of the historic occasion.
