There is a lot of speculation about who will be the big surprise talent signing at Sunday’s AEW Revolution. A new report has only thrown more gas onto the speculation fire.
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion made his in-ring return this past January at the WWE Royal Rumble by working the Men’s Royal Rumble Match. He had been retired due to a history of concussions. After his return, there were reports about his status with the company and WWE had plans to use him in a part-time role. However, that’s no longer the case.
Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc reported today that Christian is currently a free agent, and is not under contract with WWE. Earlier in the week, Raj tweeted he was told Christian was under contract with WWE. It turns out that Christian was only under contract with FOX, which is likely due to him working on the WWE Backstage show that has since been canceled.
The report noted, “there were some ideas discussed between WWE and Christian, and the company was interested in signing him. However, talks apparently fell through.”
Fightful Select reported on Friday that Christian has not been backstage as of late at WWE events and there were no creative plans spoken about. Fans also picked up on how AEW’s Chief Legal officer Megha Parekh recently followed then unfollowed Christian on Instagram.
Regarding Christian potentially being the surprise wrestler who is signing a deal with AEW, he would fit Paul Wight’s statement of it being a “Hall of Fame-worthy talent.”
However, unless it’s a swerve, it has to be noted that AEW President Tony Khan recently confirmed that the mystery talent is one of his all-time favorites. In a past interview, he named Chris Jericho, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, and Steve Austin as his Mount Rushmore of wrestlers.
