White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito is ready to do whatever it takes to win in 2021.
The Chicago White Sox ended a painfully long postseason drought during the shortened 2020 season. They will now look to prove they can keep up the success for the duration of a 162-game campaign.
Lucas Giolito is a key piece in this White Sox core of talent and should only get better after finishing seventh in American League Cy Young voting for 2020. His team expects to win and the ace has what can be taken as a bit of a wild message for how they will indeed win in 2021.
Lucas Giolito ready for White Sox to dominate
Kill or be killed is not a normal mantra used in MLB. But fans in Chicago should be excited that such a nice and easy-going player like Giolito is ready to reach that next level of being a World Series contender.
He threw a no-hitter last season and fans got to see a compact glimpse of the star Giolito can become. Maybe he can take on a new, meaner persona to intimidate opposing batters. Or he can continue to wow the opposition by being so calm and having such nasty stuff.
The White Sox need to take on a personality after so many years of losing. That is why the hiring of Tony La Russa as manager remains the biggest wild card move for the club. Is he going to embrace this young, fun-loving group? It may be his only choice because the front office can’t let years of team-building be ruined by a manager who hasn’t been in a dugout since 2011.
Giolito is, metaphorically, ready to “kill” opponents and White Sox fans should be even more pumped about the season. The way the team performs in 2021 should finally show whether all the years of waiting were worth it and the current confidence in that clubhouse should mean the faith will be rewarded.
