The NBA G League has found the individual responsible for the ‘Coronavirus’ comment made toward Jeremy Lin and handling the matter internally.
As we recognize the one-year anniversary of the coronavirus pandemic, the NBA is still having to combat the racism it set out to diminish in last year’s NBA bubble. Fans remember last summer’s events as the George Floyd case brought turmoil and rebellion to the sports world. Since then, the league has made efforts to show its players and the world that it won’t tolerate racism in any form or fashion.
Still, race and discrimination are at the forefront of the league’s concerns. Just yesterday, the Miami Heat had to announce the suspension of Meyers Leonard after he dropped a racial slur while gaming online in a live stream.
Now, the NBA G League has announced that it has found the individual responsible for the egregious comments made toward Santa Cruz Warriors guard and Asian-American Jeremy Lin.
The NBA G League and the Warriors are handling the Jeremy Lin situation internally
In a tweet, Shams Charania of The Athletic shared a statement from a G League spokesperson regarding the investigation’s results. The matter is reportedly being handled internally with Lin’s support.
Lin shared his sentiments regarding the unfortunate situation earlier this week on his official Twitter account. He was adamant about not having the desire to reveal the identity of the player who made the racist comments.
We have to applaud Lin for how he handled this. Hopefully, the league continues to support players speaking out against Asian hate and all forms of discrimination in sports and the world at large. Though his season with the Warriors’ G League affiliate has come to an end, his voice in pushing the NBA forward this year is more important than ever.
