UFC 259: Amanda Nunes annihilated Megan Anderson in featherweight title fight.
Amanda Nunes defeated Megan Anderson via submission (armbar), Round 1 – 2:03 at UFC 259 on Saturday, March 6, 2021, live from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV.
“It’s like the lion is always dangerous, but when she has a baby, nobody can stop her. Ever. I’m more dangerous now with my little girl, so nobody’s gonna stop me. I’m gonna retire undefeated and with the two belts at home,” said Nunes.
Nunes opened the first round on the offensive, landing a calf kick and following it up with a powerful right hand. Nunes came back with another right hand that hurt Anderson. The attack continued as Nunes dropped Anderson with a combination. Nunes was able to take Anderson’s back and then transitioned to an arm-bar that forced Anderson to tap out.
The title defense was among the most impressive of Nunes’ career. Anderson barely touched her. The title defense was Nunes’ second at featherweight and 12th straight win. Nunes has essentially defeated every challenger at featherweight and does not have many contenders that she has not already beaten at bantamweight. Nunes continues to look absolutely unstoppable in either weight division.
The loss could signal the end of the featherweight title in the UFC. The promotion has failed to develop the roster and sign challengers in the division. The loss on Saturday dropped Anderson’s record to 11-5.
