The Duke Blue Devils won’t be featured in this year’s NCAA tournament for the first time in 25 years and Twitter is having a field day with that fact.
The Duke Blue Devils basketball program woke up on Selection Sunday with just the slightest chance of still making this year’s NCAA tournament. Well, they wouldn’t get in on merit alone, but would instead need to be one of the backup teams that got in if a team selected can’t play due to COVID.
Teams in the NCAA Tournament have to notify the NCAA by 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday if they cannot meet the required COVID-19 medical and testing protocols, but as of right now, Duke will not be playing in the NCAA tournament this year.
The last time Duke missed March Madness was in 1994-95, when they finished the season with a 13-18 record and a second-round ACC Tournament loss to Wake Forest.
In honor of the historic evening, Twitter took its rare opportunity to pile on the Blue Devil hate.

It’s no secret that college basketball fans have enjoyed this year’s death of the blue bloods. Mike Krzyzewski’s team not being in the postseason is definitely strange, but their haters are literally rejoicing.

Can’t win em all, eh Duke?
The Blue Devils finish the season 13-11 overall and 9-9 in the ACC. Back to the drawing board for Coach K. There’s always next year.
