Shock waves! – Tennis Canada

On Friday night, people at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers were still trying to figure out what happened to Félix that afternoon.

In his rematch against Cameron Norrie, who defeated him in Los Cabos last week, FAA was absolutely masterful. But in the quarters versus Casper Ruud, he stumbled.

It wasn’t so much the loss that shocked IGA Stadium, since his opponent is still the fourth seed. It’s more about the way things went down.

After securing a break point in the first game, he then let ten straight games go by and was swiftly eliminated 1-6, 2-6.

Twenty-two unforced errors, four double faults and barely 74 minutes later, it was all over for Félix, to the disappointment of fans who really wanted him to stick around all weekend. People love him, and who knows how far he could have gotten with all the big names already gone?

In his own words

In the post-match presser, Félix made no excuses, although he was surprised by the outcome.

“I never thought it would end like that the day after such a great match,” he admitted.

“I like having the sense I gave myself every chance. I tried, but it all happened so quickly,” said Félix, who’s US$149,000 richer after his week in Montréal.

“It’s a shame! It’s very disappointing to lose like this in any tournament, let alone here,” he added.
