Penn State football: 4-star QB leaning toward Nittany Lions over Notre Dame?

Drew Allar remains uncommitted in the 2022 recruiting class, but he might be leaning toward playing for James Franklin’s Penn State football team over Brian Kelly’s Notre Dame squad.

Two blue-bloods are vying for four-star quarterback Drew Allar‘s commitment for 2022: James Franklin’s Penn State football program and Brian Kelly’s Notre Dame football team.

It is early in the process, but it looks like Allar is leaning slightly toward Penn State over Notre Dame.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Allar is the No. 10 pro-style quarterback, the No. 10 overall player from Ohio and the No. 257 player nationally for 2022. He has 23 official offers, but the Nittany Lions and the Fighting Irish are the two likeliest teams to land him. The Medina, Ohio native is 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds and will likely be planning to enroll early in January.

Expect a recruiting battle between Notre Dame and Penn State for Drew Allar

Allar’s primary recruiter to South Bend is quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees. Despite recruiting Tyler Buchner out of La Mesa, California in the 2021 cycle, Rees has shown an eye for talent at the quarterback position. He was Phil Jurkovec’s secondary recruiter in the class of 2018. Jurkovec backed up Ian Book in South Bend for a few years. He is now starting for the Boston College Eagles.

Mike Yurcich is serving as Allar’s primary recruiter to State College. While this is Yurcich’s first year on Franklin’s staff, he has landed top recruits recently with CJ Stroud to Ohio State and Spencer Sanders to Oklahoma State before that. Yurcich had been Quinn Ewers’ primary recruiter to Texas when he was a part of Tom Herman’s 2020 staff in Austin. His recruiting prowess speaks for itself.
