Manchester City outclassed Borussia Monchengladbach to win 2-0 on Tuesday and book their place in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Early goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan put City in control at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, the same venue as the first-leg, which Pep Guardiola’s side also won 2-0, and continued their pursuit of an historic quadruple.

They started without a traditional striker on the pitch and left Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling on the substitutes’ bench but took the lead after only 12 minutes.

De Bruyne’s left-footed strike from the edge of the penalty area flew into the top corner via the woodwork to effectively put the tie to bed.

Six minutes later, Gundogan, who is enjoying the best scoring season of his career, poked home a second from close-range after Phil Foden‘s probing run.

From there, City did not have to break stride and although they continued to carve out chances to increased their lead, Gladbach, who have not won for eight games in all competitions, did not threaten Ederson‘s goal.
