Joc Pederson on how he got Braves mojo going: ‘Show up, say hey’

How did the Atlanta Braves go from playoff uncertainty to the World Series? Joc Pederson says it was simple: They got their mojo going.

No sports team succeeds without a certain amount of confidence. Swagger can be key. Mojo makes all the difference.

At some point in the 2021 season, something clicked for the Braves. Now they’re in the World Series.

“The mojo wasn’t there so we did everything we can to get the mojo going,” Joc Pederson explained.

When he was asked about what he did to make that happen, his response elicited laughs.

“Uh, I don’t know,” Pederson said. “Show up, say hey.”

Is it really that simple?

When you have someone like Pederson showing up night in and night in, it definitely means something.

Joc Pederson made a difference for the Braves by showing up

The Braves added Pederson from the Cubs to replace Ronald Acuña Jr. after his ACL injury. The trade worked beautifully for Atlanta as Pederson helped the team secure a playoff spot and battle in the postseason. He batted .249/.325/.428 with seven home runs and 22 RBI in 64 regular season games.

Pederson’s influence has been key in the playoffs. While wearing a pearl necklace around his neck, he drove in nine runs across the NLDS and NLCS.

The next task is keeping up the confidence in the World Series with the season on the line. The Braves will take on the Astros with a chance to win their first World Series since 1995. If they win it, they can thank all that indescribable mojo.
