Jayson Tatum still confident in Celtics despite slow start

The Boston Celtics still have time to correct their mediocre start and Jayson Tatum feels like they can with all of their pieces back.

The Boston Celtics are starting to look like themselves again. Many NBA fans expected the team to be championship contenders at the season’s start, but they had obviously regressed since their bubble experience when they made the conference finals.

Now, as winners of five of their last six games, the C’s are currently 20-18 and sit in fifth place in the subpar Eastern Conference. The squad has jumped from out of the playoff picture before the All-Star break to the middle of the pack as far as seeding goes.

As they get into the full swing of the second half of their schedule, Celtics star Jayson Tatum Is confident that his team can get back to playing at a high level consistently.

Jayson Tatum says COVID-19 and injuries played a role in the Celtics’ slow start

Through 33 games so far this year, Tatum is averaging 25.1 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game for the Celtics.

While it’s clear that they should probably make a move before the deadline, all C’s fans keep hearing from management is about trades that never actually happened.

Still, Tatum told FanSided.com that Boston has all of the pieces it needs to get back into contention.

“Yeah, I think we won five out of last six or something,” he said. “We started off really well and then I think just the league kind of had its ups and downs with guys testing positive and us having to postpone games and not having enough people to play.

“So we for sure had a rough patch, we were trying to figure it out. And we had a lot of guys that weren’t able to play due to injury, Kemba [Walker] and [Marcus] Smart. Now that we kind of have all 14 back together, I feel like we feel more like our normal selves and we look a lot better. And hopefully everyone can continue to stay healthy and we continue to build.”

You can never guarantee the health and safety of players, especially given how weird of a year it’s already been due to COVID-19. Should the Celtics make a trade before the March 25 deadline?
