‘Sky’s the limit’ for Leeds United youngster Sam Greenwood with shades of Jermaine Beckford about him

Former Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford sees similarities between himself and Sam Greenwood, and thinks the ‘sky’s the limit’ for him.

Greenwood joined Leeds from Arsenal in a £1.5million move in 2020. The forward has shown himself to be a top asset for the Whites’ academy side. Indeed, the England Under-21s striker has scored 20 goals in Premier League 2 over the past couple of seasons.

What’s more, he has already made the step up to the senior squad.

The 20-year-old has made three Premier League appearances this season, contributing two assists. He also started the FA Cup third-round tie against West Ham in January.

It seems he has made a decent impact on the side in his few senior appearances. In fact, his role in the 3-0 win over Watford earlier this month provided as an indicator to manager Jesse Marsch that Greenwood is ready for more involvement.

It seems that the youngster’s career is on an upwards trajectory. Former Whites star Beckford thinks that, similarly to himself, Greenwood’s connection with the fans will help his performances.

“I had that as well,” Beckford said via Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I think that’s why you want to give a little bit more, you feel that energy, you feel that passion coming from the fans, from the club, from your family, and you want to give it all back.”

Indeed, Leeds fans are famously passionate about their club.

Greenwood could thrive on their energy, and put in some great performances in a Leeds shirt for years to come.

‘Sky’s the limit’ for Greenwood, thinks Beckford

Beckford feels that Greenwood could truly thrive upon the connection with the fans.

“Trust me, enjoy that, enjoy that moment, nurture it and figure out how to make it work best for you as well because once you’ve done that – the sky’s the limit, bro. Honestly, it’s incredible,” he added.

That is a big reference from on of Leeds’ most famed former stars.

Should Greenwood be able to have a similar impact as Beckford did, then he, and the fans will certainly be very happy.
