Paper Talk: Kalvin Phillips ‘picks next club’ as Man Utd are pushed aside

Kalvin Phillips has already chosen his next club amid reports Leeds could be forced to cash in, speculation is increasing that Paul Pogba’s next club has already been decided, while Thursday’s transfer gossip claims Chelsea have a two-man transfer wish-list in January.

LEEDS STAR PHILLIPS ‘PREFERS LIVERPOOL TRANSFER’

Kalvin Phillips will find himself with the pick of two of the Premier League’s biggest names in 2022, according to widespread reports.

Phillips’ deal at Leeds is currently due to expire in summer 2024 and talks over an extension are taking place. However, with nothing yet finalised, the British tabloid press are strongly pushing claims that Phillips will be heading out the exit door at Elland Road.

Naturally, there is no shortage of admirers for England’s 2021 Player of the Year. As such, Manchester United are long-time suitors for the player with the Red Devils looking to bolster their midfield options.

However, according to a plethora of reports on Thursday morning, the player is also being heavily courted by Liverpool. With The Sun and the Daily Mirror both pushing the ‘Phillips to Anfield’ agenda, it is the Daily Star who take the tale one step further.

Indeed, their reporter Jeremy Cross claims Liverpool are ready to prioritise a move for Phillips next summer.

Any deal is likely to cost them £60m – a fee they are willing to meet as they consider Jordan Henderson’s long-term replacement.

And they claim Phillips’ preference is to move to Liverpool for two reasons were he to leave Leeds. That’s because the paper claims Phillips is fearful of repercussions for his family were he to instead move to Old Trafford.

Bielsa exit ‘could see Phillips follow’

However, the paper openly admits Leeds will fight tooth and nail to keep Phillips, who has become a club icon.

But should he fail to sign his new deal, speculation will only increase that an exit is on the cards.

Secondly, the star claims Phillips’ future could be directly linked to Marcelo Bielsa’s at Elland Road. Were the Argentine to leave at the end of his contract, they state Phillips too could opt to leave and that a move to Anfield could be on.
