Outlandish report claims Everton want to sign outstanding Tottenham man

An outlandish report from Spain is suggesting that Everton are looking to cash in on Lucas Digne this summer and replace him with a Tottenham star.

Spanish outlet El Gol Digital claims that the Toffees are looking to sell Digne for a fee in the region of £25.8million (€30m), with Atletico Madrid keen on a move.

That rumour in itself is somewhat surprising, given that the player only signed a new deal last month.

However, the more surprising line is that Carlo Ancelotti wants to replace him with Spurs’ Sergio Reguilon.

The Spain international has been superb in his first campaign in north London after joining from Real Madrid.

His summer switch, which could rise to as much as £32m, has proved to be one of the bargains of the season.

Real rated the player highly before the sale, so much so that they have a buy back clause in place. Reguilon could move back to the Bernabeu for more than £40m either this summer or next, should he wish to.

That appears to further signal how unlikely Everton making a move for the left-back is.

There is also no way that Spurs transfer boss Daniel Levy would allow one of his top players to join a rival.

As for Digne, Carlo Ancelotti rates the Frenchman very highly and views him as an integral part of his team.

With all that taken into consideration, this appears to be one of more unlikely rumours currently doing thr rounds.

Going back to basics for Everton

Carlo Ancelotti was disappointed by Everton’s latest struggle at home and hinted they may have to go back to basics.

Everton’s home form has been poor in comparison to their record on the road this season. After losing 2-1 to Burnley, Everton have now lost five of their seven home league games in 2021.

Their latest setback meant they missed the chance to put pressure on the sides above them in the race for Europe. It left Ancelotti disappointed – and the coach reflected on why there is a difference in their performances.

He told Sky Sports: “Big disappointment, we lost a great opportunity to climb the table.

“We made the same mistakes we have in games this season at home. We started poorly and were 2-0 down, we tried to get back into the game but it was not enough.

“It was a mistake. We tried to build up and were imbalanced. They were better and strong defensively, they won second balls. This is the reason for the defeat.

“We should have created more. We missed passes and crosses, we missed control and quality.”
