Mings insists Aston Villa must ‘learn quickly’ after ‘amateurish’ Wolves defeat

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings insists the Villans must “learn quickly” following their disappointing 3-2 defeat against Wolves on Saturday.

The Molineux club were 2-0 down with less than 15 minutes left at Villa Park before completing an astonishing comeback to claim all three points.

Goals from Danny Ings and John McGinn had put Dean Smith’s side ahead and it looked like they were headed towards a comfortable victory.

Six times a transfer has signalled the end of a career

“It’s a tough one to take because we threw it away,” Mings said.

“We were controlling the game, 2-0 up with 15 minutes to go. To throw it away was almost amateurish.

“They are a great set of lads in there (the dressing room), honest as well. We have to learn quickly.”

All three goals were easily preventable, which left Mings and his team-mates bitterly disappointed.

“They didn’t have to do too much for their goals which is probably why it is so disappointing,” the England defender added.

“It is a game we were controlling and the manner of the goals hurts the most.

“We have been good at defending set-pieces, second phase set pieces, all season. On Saturday we weren’t and they are a huge part of the game.

“We know how important they have been for our season in terms of picking up points. This time we dropped points from set-pieces.

“We have to learn quickly because set pieces are so important. We can’t concede goals in the way we did.

“We have lads who want to learn and this will hurt, it does hurt everyone. We know what these kind of games mean to the fans and we know it will be hurting them as well.”

Elsewhere, Smith has backed Emiliano Buendia to prove why Aston Villa made him their record buy.

The £38million signing made his first start in four Premier League games against Wolves.

Villa boss Smith said: “We signed him because of the quality he gives us and we know what he can give us.

“We have never put any pressure on trying to handle any price tag or numbers because the players aren’t in control of that. That is what someone is willing to pay for them.

“Their job is to go out and work hard every day and be ready to perform in the arena on a match day. I have seen a player there who is able to do that.”
