Man City ‘favourites’ to sign £100m-rated Grealish – Football365

Man City have emerged as the “favourites” to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish this summer, according to reports.

Grealish was a Villa fan growing up and he joined the club when he was just six years old. He was afforded his first chance of playing senior football in 2013 when he joined Notts County on loan aged 18.

The youngster was a mainstay for the League One side in 2013/14. They narrowly avoided relegation that year as they finished 20th, a place above Tranmere in the final relegation spot.

But Grealish was one of their best players that term, as he got five goals and seven assists from 37 league outings. His form that campaign was rewarded with his senior debut for Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season.

The midfielder established himself as a regular for the Villans from the 2014/15 season onwards. He played 33 times in the Premier League between 2014 and 2016 before his side were relegated.

During this time, he proved to be troublesome off the pitch and he fell out of favour with both Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde before their relegation.

Grealish grew to be a key player for his boyhood club in the Championship. Villa failed to get promoted after two years so they headed into the 2018/19 campaign eager to return to the Premier League.

The Englishman was vital that season. He provided six goals and eight assists as his side earned promotion through the play-offs.

Villa’s first year back in the top flight was difficult as prior to the national lockdown, they looked certainties to go down. But with Grealish at the forefront, Dean Smith’s side survived. The attacker was pivotal as he was involved in 14 Premier League goals.

After his strong end to last season, Grealish has kicked on this year. So far this term, he has six goals and 12 assists from just 22 Premier League appearances.

This form has also seen him establish himself as a regular for England under Gareth Southgate. He is in contention to start for his country at this summer’s European Championships.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with Grealish in recent months. But The Daily Mail have reported that Man City are the favourites to sign him. They add that Villa will demand around £100m for their prized asset.
