Liverpool: Serie A giants ‘ready’ to sign Reds man on free transfer but deal ‘depends’ on Chelsea outcast

Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool and Brazil attacker Roberto Firmino, who is out of contract at the end of this season.

Firmino has been integral for Liverpool over the past few seasons as the club have enjoyed immense success across various competitions.

The attacker’s unselfishness has been key as he helped Liverpool get the best out of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

The Brazil international has sometimes been short of goals compared to his teammates. But he has stepped up this season while most of Liverpool’s players have struggled.

The 31-year-old has grabbed seven goals and three assists in the Premier League this term. Liverpool could be primed for a blow though as Firmino is out of contract in the summer.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that he wants to keep Firmino. When recently asked why there has been a delay with a renewal, he answered: “They are normal things. What could be the reason from our point of view?

“There is no reason to give too detailed information but when you think a bit, where could it hang? It could be the time, it could be the money or these kinds of things, but it is completely normal.

“Bobby knows the situation here and what we think of him, that’s clear. And there is nothing else to say, there is no problem or whatever, it is just the situation. I can’t see any kind of problems there.

“He was [so important], he is. I think in the first part of the season we were not flying but Bobby was the only one who played a pretty good season. He was probably the only one who played a kind of normal season in a lot of games, at least.”

As shown by his form this season, Firmino still has a lot to give before he calls time on his career. Rival clubs could get themselves a bargain with a free transfer in the summer and Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Inter Milan are keen to take advantage.

The Italian outlet state that Firmino ‘really could leave’ Liverpool over the next few months. Inter Milan are ‘ready to play their cards’ to sign him but they are said to face competition from Premier League clubs.

Though it is noted that Inter’s interest in Firmino is ‘directly dependent’ on Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgium international is currently on loan at the Serie A side but they have the option to sign him permanently later this year.

Inter Milan are ‘yet to make a decision on Lukaku’, but they have at least ‘started to do the accounts’ ahead of a swoop for Firmino.
