EXCLUSIVE: Worry for Norwich as Bundesliga club add Farke to shortlist

Norwich City boss Daniel Farke is believed to be a candidate to take charge of Eintracht Frankfurt, sources have told TEAMtalk.

44-year-old Farke has a burgeoning reputation in the game, having been in charge of Borussia Dortmund’s second team before being appointed by Norwich in 2017. Farke guided Norwich to promotion to the Premier League in his first season. Although relegation followed, he has again followed that up with the Canaries on the brink of securing the Championship title.

But Farke’s performance in England has not gone unnoticed. He was linked with a move back to his native Germany last summer. His name has also been mentioned in relation to a number of Premier League jobs.

However, a new vacancy in German could very well appeal with Eintracht Frankfurt on the lookout for a head coach.

Frankfurt are having a very good season and are well on their way to a top-four finish in the Bundesliga. They are just a point behind third-placed Wolfsburg.

But they have lost their current boss with Adi Hutter agreeing to take over at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Frankfurt are now on the lookout for their new head coach and Farke has emerged as one of the contenders. Farke has a year left on his current deal but there is believed to be a break clause should he wish to use it.

Although we understand that Norwich are desperate for Farke to sign a new deal at the club. They hope the lure of another season in the Premier League could help him reject the overtures of any rival offers.

The Frankfurt job would be a major appeal to Farke, although he is by no means the only contender. PSV Edinhoven boss Roger Shmidt, Wolfsburg’s Olivier Glasner and Sandro Schwarz of Dinamo Moscow are also linked.

Norwich chasing Eredivisie striker

Norwich are planning for next season, which they hope will be in the Premier League and with Farke at the helm.

They can then turn their attention to potential signings, and we revealed last week that they are looking closely at Greek striker Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The VVV Venlo front-man has taken the Dutch league by storm with almost a goal in every game. He’s currently stands on 27 goals in 29 appearances, and lies top of the Eredivisie goalscoring ranks.

His performances have, understandably, seen a host of clubs watching him closely. Sources have revealed to TEAMtalk that Norwich are one of those who are keen.

The Canaries have stayed loyal to many of the players who got them to the Premier League last time around. However, the club’s hierarchy understand they need to give boss Daniel Farke more options to help keep them up this time around.

Giakoumakis is now emerging as a target – although there is also big interest from within Holland. However, the Premier League is a huge draw for any player and Norwich feel they have a genuine shout.
