Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is unimpressed at being forced to make a decision over his future this month.
It was thought that Haaland’s future would be settled in the summer, when the €75m release clause in his contract comes into effect.
Agent Mino Raiola stoked the fires of speculation in December by naming the four “big clubs he can go to”.
But Dortmund have potentially unsettled the Norwegian by insisting he makes a mid-season call as to where he will play next campaign.
“The last six months I have chosen not to say anything out of respect for Dortmund, but now the club has started to press me into making a decision,” Haaland told Norwegian TV channel Viaplay.
“All I want to do is play football. But they press me… about my future, so that means I have to make a decision soon.”
Haaland added that deciding where he wants to play next season now was “what they [Dortmund] want”.
“It means things will happen now,” he said. “They have started to put a lot of pressure on me, and I have to accept that… so now is the time to get things started.
“I have said from the beginning that I want to focus on football, because that is when I am at my best. But I can’t do that now.”
Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, did not deny that Dortmund have taken such a hard-line stance, but dismissed any idea that the relationship between club and player has suffered.
“There’s no problem with Erling,” he told Ruhr Nachrichten, as quoted by The Guardian. “He is a spontaneous person. He’s allowed to do that. But he must also have some understanding for our situation – we can’t wait until the end of May.”
Haaland has scored 21 goals and assisted six more in 18 games this season, despite missing much of the campaign through injury.
The 21-year-old was speaking after netting twice in a 5-1 win over Freiburg, which lifted Dortmund to within three points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, albeit having played an extra game.
Marco Rose’s side are in the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal, while they will face Scottish side Rangers in the Europa League knockout round play-offs in February.
