Celtic: Shaw could be instant hit if they hire Terry

This summer will mark a new start for Celtic. The club will no longer have Neil Lennon in charge, while Peter Lawwell will also be gone.

One has resigned and the other is retiring so it will be all change at the top for the Hoops. Add the fact that they’re looking for a Director of Football too, and the makeup of Parkhead will be changing completely.

The Bhoys are also busy in the transfer market. Liam Shaw has reportedly agreed a pre-contract with Celtic, a deal that may now be up in the air following Lennon’s departure.

Though, if he does still join, he could be an instant hit at the club if they hire a certain coach.

That happens to be John Terry. The 40-year-old has been labelled as someone that could hit the ground running in Glasgow by Kevin Campbell, and if Celtic does opt for the Aston Villa assistant, it would only be good news for Shaw.

Do you want John Terry at Celtic?

Definitely

No thanks

No thanks

The Sheffield Wednesday youngster is capable of playing in midfield and defence, but if he has desires of featuring further back, Terry could be game-changing for the development of his career.

That’s because of the way he’s previously mentored young defenders. Plenty at Aston Villa have waxed lyrical about his training methods – no less than Tyrone Mings who says that Terry “sets high standards.”

That’s hardly surprising given the mass trophy haul he achieved as a player with Celtic. Though, since he walked into Villa, he has helped transform Mings from a Championship defender to someone now earning regular England caps.

“He’s the perfect person for me to learn from and he’s really helped me in the short amount of time we’ve worked together,” the centre-back once said of Terry.

The former defender has held private Zoom calls, providing in-depth analysis of how players can improve. Although he’s Dean Smith’s assistant at Villa Park, it’s the defence where he uses most of his expertise.

Villans full-back Matty Cash has also reserved fine words for Terry’s influence, saying: “We do a lot of work with him as a unit and it shows.”

How much did David Turnbull cost Celtic?

Add praise from Matt Targett into the equation and you nearly have a full backline all in harmonious admiration for the coach. Therefore, just imagine what he could do with someone as fresh and raw as Shaw.

The 19-year-old only has 22 senior appearances to his name so clearly still has plenty to learn. If Terry arrived at Parkhead, Shaw would have no perfect mentor. This feels like a match made in heaven; he would surely be a hit.

AND in other news, Celtic could help convince Edouard to stay by hiring “very demanding” 62 y/o manager…
