Bullish FSG willing to hit back by flexing Liverpool muscles for Mbappe

Liverpool’s owners do not feel “put off” by the fact that Paris Saint-Germain will only sell Kylian Mbappe for £173million or more, according to a report.

Mbappe announced himself as a generational talent four seasons ago while at Monaco as a teenager.

However, he has gone from strength to strength since then; the Frenchman starred in his country’s 2018 World Cup triumph and reached the Champions League final last season.

However, his hat-trick against Barcelona at Lionel Messi’s Nou Camp on Tuesday has been regarded as a changing of the guard over the Argentine’s recent grip on the Ballon d’Or.

What’s more, his performance raised further eyebrows over his future at the age of 22.

Mbappe’s contract in Paris runs out in the summer of 2022, with speculation already mounting. According to Le Parisien, though, the French giants have set a minimum price tag of €200million (£173million) for the forward.

The report adds that Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Juventus have all shown genuine interest.

In addition, the financial orchestrators at each club are willing to pay whatever it takes to sign him. Indeed, they ‘theoretically’ have the funds, despite the cost of the pandemic.

Madrid have entertained the strongest links to a move to Mbappe in recent months. Los Blancos held off on spending last summer, with expectation growing that they could outlay big sums this time round.

Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland are supposedly their top targets.

Mbappe would answer Liverpool critics

Liverpool’s FSG owners, meanwhile, have faced criticism for their financial input in recent months.

The Reds have lost all three senior centre-halves to long-term injuries and spent less than £5million on Preston’s Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak as cover.

What’s more, Takumi Minamino’s £500,000 loan move to Southampton covered Davies’ transfer fee (via the Liverpool Echo).

As such, spending such huge sums on Mbappe would answer their doubters and then some.

In any case, Le Parisien states that it is clear that while Mbappe is aware of his potential, he knows he will not realise it in Paris.

The France international faced questions on his future after his European heroics on Tuesday. However, he gave a rather muted response.
