Arsenal could make a fortune on Nelson

Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar must tie Reiss Nelson down to a new long-term contract before long, otherwise, they will lose him for nothing.

His current contract expires at the end of this season, but with only three months until January, the clock is ticking.

Mikel Arteta has brought the good times back at the Emirates this season, leading Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table having only lost one match all campaign.

Summer arrivals included Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Fabio Vieira and they have immediately improved the first-team squad.

The Spaniard has also been thinking of the future, however, signing Brazilian winger Marquinhos, but his next focus should be on tying down Nelson, who could play a big part in the next few years.

Nelson could make Arsenal a fortune

The 22-year-old, who is earning £15k-per-week on his current deal, made his full Premier League debut for the club back in April 2018, when Arsene Wenger was still in charge.

A loan move to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim the next season proved to be a success, with the youngster playing 29 matches, scoring seven times, and returning to Arsenal confident and ready to make a name for himself in the first team.

32 appearances in the next two seasons under Unai Emery and then Arteta, who joined in December 2019, allowed Nelson to show glimpses of his talent. Injuries played their part too, with the winger missing 32 matches in this time period, stunting his progression.

A season-long loan spell at Feyenoord last season offered Nelson the chance to experience regular first-team football and he grabbed it with both hands, playing 32 times and chipping in with four goals and seven assists in all competitions.

The 22-year-old had an averaging rating of 7.01 via SofaScore for his Eredivisie performances, showing that he can perform at the highest level.

An injury has disrupted his campaign so far, but Arteta challenged him to still prove he can be “special” ahead of last night’s Europa League tie.

The winger will now need to show that he means business at the club over the coming months to earn a new deal, and if he does, expect him to earn Arsenal a fortune in the near future.
