Arsenal blueprint to make four new signings emerges with summer recruit under threat

The nature of four new signings Arsenal will target this summer has been revealed, and one move in particular could spell trouble for a recent arrival.

The Gunners were the biggest spenders across all of Europe last summer when splashing out over £140m on six new faces. Arsenal had a clear strategy in mind with each of their new arrivals aged 23 or under at the time of arrival.

And after a sluggish start, Arsenal – along with their new signings – began to find their feet under Mikel Arteta this season.

Indeed, Aaron Ramsdale is now back in England contention after wasting little time usurping Bernd Leno.

Martin Odegaard is keeping Emile Smith Rowe out of the starting eleven most weeks, while Ben White has formed a solid centre-back pairing with Gabriel Magalhaes.

Takehiro Tomiyasu too had shone before succumbing to injury. Only Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares of the summer arrivals are yet to make a telling impact.

Arsenal are entrenched in a topsy-turvy battle for fourth spot at present. Tottenham are the team currently in possession of that coveted place, though Arsenal and Manchester United harbour genuine ambitions of snatching fourth when all is said and done.

Securing the riches that comes with Champions League qualification would give the fourth-placed team a leg up this summer. It would also make them a more attractive prospect to their transfer targets.

A busy summer is expected from all three clubs chasing fourth spot, and the Telegraph have now shed light on plans being formulated at the Emirates.

Quota requirements to shape Arsenal recruitment

The newspaper report Arsenal will specifically target homegrown players this summer.

The Gunners named 22-year-old Jonathan Dinzeyi in their 25-man Premier League squad after the January window closed. That was an indication they are struggling to fill their homegrown quota given Dinzeyi has never made a first-team appearance.

What’s more, that problem could be exacerbated if Eddie Nketiah departs. The striker will become a free agent on June 30.

Regarding what positions Arsenal will target, the report claimed two new strikers could be signed.

Dusan Vlahovic was the man Arsenal tried to sign to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January. But while Aubameyang did leave, Vlahovic joined Juventus. What’s more, Alexandre Lacazette is off contract on June 30 too.

Rounding out Arsenal’s four-transfer plan will be a new playmaker and a left-back.

Kieran Tierney is Arteta’s first-choice on the left side of defence at present. However, the Scotland international has persistently struggled with injury and summer recruit Nuno Tavares has looked out of his depth at times thus far.

Indeed, Tavares has twice been hooked at or before half-time by Arteta this season.

Signing a new left-back would severely limit Tavares’ chances of game-time, though it is acknowledged the striker additions are the bigger priority.

The Telegraph do not offer a hint as to the names of who Arsenal will target. But regarding the centre-forward position, the likes of Alexander Isak, Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala, Darwin Nunez, Lautaro Martinez, Ollie Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all been touted by varying outlets over recent months.

If the Telegraph’s claim about targeting homegrown players is true, Aston Villa or Everton may soon be inundated with an offer.
