Florida football: Dan Mullen addresses rumors of bolting for the NFL

Florida football coach Dan Mullen decided to go there and address those NFL rumors.

The Florida football program has an excellent head coach in Dan Mullen, so much so that he has been connected to potential NFL jobs.

While he has never interviewed for one of those NFL jobs, Mullen addressed those rumors of leaving the college game for the pro one on Tuesday. Mullen said there are “lots of rumors out there,” but even if he did not interview with an NFL team this offseason cycle, he did express concern over what the future of college football could look like. Does that mean he could leave?

Dan Mullen did not exactly say no when it comes to leaving Florida for the NFL

Mullen is an offensive-minded head coach, which does create an easier pathway to becoming a future NFL head coach. It also helps that one of his greatest former players is having a ton of success quarterbacking the Dallas Cowboys in Dak Prescott. Mullen is also the right age to potentially make the leap, as he will not be 50-years-old for another year or so. It could happen.

Ultimately, it would have to take a truly special opportunity for Mullen to leave Florida for the NFL. Florida is a top-tier college job, one that most coaches would give up everything to have. While he does need to contend for national titles in Gainesville soon, Mullen would not have anywhere near the job security should he take his coaching talents to the NFL. For now, these are merely rumors.

Mullen would be on the shortlist of college head coaches who could make the leap to the NFL.
