UFC Vegas 21: Dan Ige knocked out Gavin Tucker in 20 seconds.
Dan Ige defeated Gavin Tucker via knockout (strikes), Round 1 – 0:22 at UFC Vegas 21 on Saturday, March 13, 2021, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV.
“I don’t know, I’ve got to see the highlight, I don’t even know what happened. I blacked out. Boom goes the dynamite. 50K,” said Ige in his post-fight interview, who called out fifth-ranked featherweight Chan Sung Jung. “I’ve been trying to fight this guy forever.”
Entering the Octagon, Tucker did not believe that Ige had knockout power. It took only 22 seconds for Ige to prove Tucker wrong. In the opening exchange, Ige landed a massive right hand that caught Tucker on the button. Immediately, Tucker fell to the canvas, with his arms spread wide. Immediately, the referee Mike Beltran ran in and stopped the fight. The knockout was the sixth-fastest in UFC featherweight history.
Ige entered Saturday’s fight as the UFC’s ninth-ranked featherweight. The Hawaiian fighter had his six-fight winning streak snapped in his last fight, losing a decision to Calvin Kattar. The impressive knockout performance will likely earn Ige a performance bonus and a higher-ranked opponent in his next fight.
The loss is extremely disappointing for Tucker. The Canadian had won four of his first five fights in the UFC, including his previous three. Tucker will look to bounce back in his next fight.
