College football media going crazy over Appalachian State miracle Hail Mary TD

The Appalachian State Mountaineers have made headlines yet again, as they got the win over the Troy Trojans on a walk-off, Hail Mary touchdown.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers entered the national spotlight after they pulled of the 17-14 upset win over the then sixth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies. As a result, they had ESPN’s College GameDay crew set their campus as their official Week 3 location. They had the chance to follow up their big win over Texas A&M with a victory over the Troy Trojans.

With a 28-24 lead, Troy decided to go for an intentional safety, with the purpose of killing off the clock and to squib kick it back to Appalachian State.

A bold strategy, but it did not work out for Troy.

Getting the ball back with just 15 seconds remaining on the clock, the Mountaineers used the Hail Mary as their final play of the game. Quarterback Chase Brice’s pass was tipped into the air, and into the hands of Appalachian State wide receiver Christian Horn for the walk-off touchdown, giving them the 32-28 victory!

Appalachian State radio call of insane Hail Mary TD to beat Troy

If the play wasn’t enough, the App State radio call was even crazier (warning: adjust the volume or else you might blow out your eardrums).

That’s the type of electric energy a play like that deserves!

Members of college football media reacted to the incredible victory for the Mountaineers, who are now 2-1 on the season.

To start off their season, the Mountaineers just barely lost a shootout against the North Carolina Tar Heels 63-61. Then, they hold a Top 10 team in the nation to just 14 points and pick up the win. Now, they follow up their first victory over a Power 5 school since defeating the Michigan Wolverines in 2007 with walk-off win.

Appalachian State looks to make it three wins in a row with a victory over the James Madison Dukes next Saturday.
