Cheapest Hotels in Las Vegas

Because Las Vegas is world-famous, visitors often assume that it’s a large city and tough to get around. The truth of the matter is that Vegas offers all of the excitement of an urban environment while still being a very manageable size.

You can typically drive from one end of town to the other in 25 minutes. Thus, regardless of the neighborhood you choose to lodge in, you have easy access to every amenity in town.

Having said that, I have divided up this list of budget hotels, motels, and boutique properties into these broad areas:

  • The Strip
  • Near UNLV
  • Fremont Street

Please know that weekend prices can vary greatly from weekday pricing and that prices can skyrocket near the holidays and major sporting events.

Also, you should be aware that most properties in Las Vegas tack on a “resort fee” to the room price, which can significantly increase your nightly room cost. This is true even when the hotel is not actually a resort.

If you don’t plan on using the pool or the Wi-Fi, you may be able to talk the hotel into removing that charge from your bill.

Every dollar saved on your accommodation is one that can be wagered on the casino floor!

The Strip

Here are the properties that will put you very close to the Strip action without breaking the bank. All of these properties are currently available at less than $100 per night.

Las Vegas

Tuscany Suites

A one-minute walk to the Strip, Tuscany Suites is Las Vegas’ best-kept secret. As a full-service hotel and casino, you don’t even have to leave the property to enjoy the full Vegas experience.

The pool is popular, the cocktail servers are fast and friendly, and the on-site Pub 365 is considered one of the best places to grab a bite in Sin City (go for the locally famous Carne Asada fries). Pub 365 has a constantly revolving selection of craft beers from the world’s best breweries (California, Belgium, and beyond).

Tuscany Suites is behind Bally’s, on Flamingo, just a stone’s throw from Las Vegas Boulevard.

The casino inside Tuscany Suites is compact but offers a decent play selection. There is a bar in the casino that serves alcoholic slushies for those looking for something different. (I always request an extra shot be added to the slushie.)

There is a coffee and pastry shop on-site to ease your way into the morning after a long night out, as well as a decent 24-hour restaurant that offers all-you-can-eat crab legs on Friday nights. This is a popular attraction, so prepare to wait.

What Tuscany Suites is known for, however, is the size of their rooms. They’re extremely spacious compared to most hotel rooms, regardless of price range.

A few of Tuscany Suites’ amenities:

  • Summertime gelato cart
  • On-site casino
  • Two casual restaurants
  • One upscale Italian restaurant
  • Breakfast and pastry café
  • Popular pool with poolside cocktail service

Tuscany Suites does have a small sportsbook on-site, but I strongly recommend using an online sportsbook or a sportsbook at one of the larger casinos for breadth of offerings and potentially better odds.

Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott Las Vegas South, Dean Martin Drive

You can walk from this hotel to Mandalay Bay, which is at the southern end of the large and glossy Strip properties. You will have to cross over the freeway, but there is an overpass that makes it convenient to do so.

If you plan on exploring other nearby large casinos, such as New York-New York, the Aria, and the MGM, you may wish to hop in a Lyft or Uber since the properties themselves are so large that you could wear yourself out.

Also close to this hotel are the world-famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign and the Bali Hai Golf Club, which welcomes visitors from out of town.

This property has a pool and a gym, and guests have stated that their stay was clean and comfortable, although a bit no-frills. Furthermore, there is “easy parking” at this property, which is a big plus if you wish to avoid the congested mega-lots of the more famous nearby properties.

Most rooms have microwaves and refrigerators, but there is no on-site restaurant. However, with the famous casino hotels so close, you will have 24-hour dining options nearby.

It is important to note that the guest rooms here are all non-smoking.

The Fairfield Inn offers:

  • An outdoor pool
  • Business center
  • Self-parking
  • Microwaves and refrigerators in some rooms

Artisan Boutique Hotel

This property allows pets but does not allow children. As an adults-only hotel, The Artisan is located at the junction of Sahara Avenue and the I-15.

This hotel is surrounded by great dining options, and it’s close to famous casinos such as The Strat and Circus Circus.

The Artisan is near the north end of the main Strip area. So, if you plan on visiting Caesar’s Palace, the Wynn, Treasure Island, and any of the other famous properties that are more central to the Strip, you’ll either need to catch a ride or choose a more centrally-located hotel like Tuscany Suites, which is listed above.

The Artisan offers live music inside in a lounge, as well as on the patio. There is a tapas restaurant on the property and even a topless pool area.

A fitness center and a salon are on-site, as is meeting and event space. In short, this may be your idea of a perfect grownups weekend away.

The property is about a mile and a half from the Convention Center and two miles to Las Vegas City Center, which sits at the heart of the Strip.

  • Adults only
  • Full pool area
  • On-site restaurant
  • Live music on weekends

Near UNLV

If you are visiting your college student, in town to see a Running Rebels game, or simply want to stay away from the crowds of the Strip, you can consider staying near the university.

Vegas Casino Choices

Silver Sevens

This hotel is away from the Strip, near UNLV. Customers say the location is walkable, quiet, and convenient to the rest of Las Vegas.

This hotel was built back in the early 1980s when everyone could and did smoke everywhere. Remember when people smoked on planes, and all the seats had individual ashtrays? It’s tough to imagine now. Even the non-smoking rooms at this property can have a lingering smell of smoke, according to some reviewers.

The property was renovated in 2013, and the rooms are reputed to be basic, clean, and comfortable. There is a casino on-site, as well as a restaurant and two lounges.

The pool is open seasonally. So, if you desire a swim in mid-winter, you may want to seek a property with an indoor pool or a year-round heated outdoor pool.

Silver Sevens offers:

  • Casino
  • Fitness center
  • Restaurant
  • Free parking

Adjoining rooms are available upon request in this 300-room hotel.

Alexis Park All Suite Resort

This hotel is a bit pricier than other options in this article at around $140 per night. However, it is within walking distance to UNLV, which makes this a popular choice for visitors wanting to visit the campus.

Visitors compare this hotel to staying at a condo, with plenty of space and a residential feel. There is a pool surrounded by palm trees and deck chairs.

You won’t find the world-class razzle-dazzle here that you would find by the pools at Caesar’s or Mandalay Bay, but this property does maintain a solid “good” in the review category.

The hotel bar is friendly and well-stocked, and the lobby is a comfortable place to relax and meet friends before going out on the town.

Features:

  • A sundry shop
  • Large, well-lit fitness center
  • Two computer workstations
  • Event and banquet rooms
  • Large, well-appointed hotel rooms with kitchen areas

Fremont Street

It used to be that visitors wanting to avoid the high-priced lodgings on the Strip would take themselves to Fremont Street, the older gambling area in Vegas close to downtown.

However, many Fremont Street properties have undertaken renovations in recent years. And now, several hotels in the area are as costly as Caesars Palace and The Venetian.

Las Vegas

Here are a few that have managed to keep prices down, but you may have to sacrifice a few creature comforts.

City Center Motel

This no-frills motel on 700 E. Fremont Street gets decent reviews from out-of-town visitors. The location makes many entertaining Fremont Street sights easily walkable, including the Fremont Street Experience (pedestrian-only area with access to many historic casino properties) and all of the restaurants in the area.

Offers:

  • Self-serve laundry
  • Refrigerator
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Free parking

In addition to single and double rooms, the City Center Motel offers family suites with multiple beds.

Hotel Apache

This property is located near the Four Queens Casino, right on Fremont Street.

The Apache has updated its common areas to look quite hip and appealing. However, the hotel rooms themselves can be quite small (which is how the hotel can keep prices hovering right around “reasonable”) but are nicely appointed.

Walk to shopping and casinos, or lounge by the rooftop pool with its views of the Stratosphere and other Vegas landmarks.

This hotel provides a good place to people watch—a favorite activity in the often-colorful Fremont Street area.

Amenities of the Hotel Apache:

  • Seasonal pool
  • Four bars
  • Three restaurants
  • Breakfast available

If you want to use a year-round heated pool, you can walk to the pool at the Circa, which you can use for a small fee. The Circa pool is, however, adults-only.

Note: If you choose to stay in the Fremont Street area, make sure you at least walk into the Circa and see their sportsbook. It is currently the largest in the world, with a three-story-high wall of screens and the ability to order food and cocktails from your sportsbook seat.

A Thought in Closing

I have stayed in all different types of Vegas properties, and I can tell you that once you take the elevator up from the glamorous lobbies of the big-name properties, all the hotel rooms in town tend to look alike.

Thus, I believe staying in the MGM or the Luxor or the Wynn is only necessary if you really want to be upstairs from your favorite table games, slots, or bartenders.

Otherwise, the smart move is to stay in reasonably-priced accommodations so that you can spend all of your money on craps and cocktails, like a reasonable person!
