Miami Heat vs Los Angeles Betting Preview

Both of these teams – The Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers – are far off the form that carried them to a collision in the NBA Finals last season. Miami has opened as a 9-point favorite over the Lakers with the total sitting at 203.5 points. The Gold Sheet offers their preview of Thursday’s championship rematch between the Heat and Lakers.

Los Angeles has been somewhat rudderless without LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but might get a boost from recent acquisition C Andre Drummond in this one if his toe allows it, and Davis could return next week. The Lakers are 4-5 straight-up since losing James, but have still maintained their intense defensive effort, ranking 3rd in defensive efficiency in that span (still No. 1 overall this year), although their offensive numbers have fallen off the table, moving from 111 points per 100 possessions to just 99.7.

Miami is just a game above .500, but had been on an uptick prior to running into an peaking Memphis side on Tuesday, and the Heat won four of their last five straight-up and have four players scoring 17 points per game and shooting 52% or better over the past five games. Miami took the first matchup 96-94 in LA when the Lakers had James but no Davis, with Jimmy Butler and Kendrick Nunn combining for 51 points. Heat C Bam Adebayo (19 ppg, 10 rpg this year) might have some trouble if Drummond is sound, and there is the issue of the Heat’s spread mark at home (6-12-1 L19 laying points at American Airlines Arena).
